The Trouble With Blondes [Kaia x Yamada x Aizawa]

Post by NicTheDjinn »

Shota let out a slow, even breath as he tried to calm his nerves and stop his bouncing leg. Normally he wasn't ever this rattled, nowhere near, but something about this had unnerved the normally near-expressionless man. He took a sip of his coffee, shutting his eyes for a brief moment. This would go fine. It'd all be fine. Kaia was a sweet and understanding woman. Onyx eyes slipped open as he felt a hand rest on his thigh, calming the bouncing for now. He looked over at the blond man next to him, Hizashi giving him a gentle smile. He sat with his own cup of steaming coffee in his hands-- likely his fourth or fifth cup of the day. It was a rare day off for the pair of them, school having finished up just an hour or two prior and having managed to schedule off some personal time with both of their agencies.

This was a very important conversation they were about to have, after all.

See, the two pros had been dating for about eight years now, and they were still madly in love. But, they'd recently talked over wanting to bring a third person into their relationship. Neither man was sure where it had come from, but after a lot of talking and testing to see if, yes, this was something they really, truly wanted, they agreed to brainstorm someone that they felt would meld well with their polar opposite personalities. Yamada had suggested both Kayama and Fukukado, mostly joking when he had. Aizawa quickly shot them down. It wasn't that he didn't love either woman-- platonically, of course-- but he just didn't see them working well with how Shota and Hizahi's relationship worked. Hizashi turned it around on him, asking the raven-haired man who he'd suggest then.

One name came to mind: Kaia Hasegawa. The three of them had attended U.A. together, though she was more of Aizawa's friend than Yamada. The blond had heard about her in passing and worked with the woman, but had never had the pleasure of becoming more than just-barely-acquaintances with the physics teacher. Still, he happily agreed to the idea, telling Shota to text the woman and set up a simple coffee date one day after school when they all would be off from hero work and Yamada could still function before passing out face first in the plush bed at the men's apartment.

Which led them to here. Aizawa nervously waiting with his jet black hair hanging around his face, in his usual all black attire that was barely distinguishable from his hero suit, and Yamada with his blond hair half tied up and his casual glasses perched on his nose. He was dressed a lot calmer, mimicking his general mood on the situation, a brown leather jacket pulled over a simple white t-shirt with blue jeans and scuffed up sneakers that were just plain comfortable. Both men looked up as the little bell above the café door jingled. They half-expected to see some stranger walk through the door like they had so many times before, but instead the teal-haired woman they'd been waiting on walked through.

Aizawa straightened up ever so slightly, raising his hand. "Hasegawa, over here," he called to her, Yamada straightening up to his full sitting height with a bright smile on his face.

-----

Kaia had been alone for a while now, and that didn't just mean relationship-wise. She hadn't even spoken to her family in years either. If you could even call them that. However, she had made peace with that a while ago. She was perfectly content to let her friends around her become her real family. But... Kaia was shy. So, introducing herself usually wasn't on her agenda when it came to her social life. In high school that hadn't really been an issue. Her record-breaking scores from that robot field test (that STILL hadn't changed, despite her constantly insisting that it needed to be), had really bolstered her popularity. Kaia wasn't even sure how the information had gotten out; it wasn't like the scores were broadcasted. But that had just been popularity, most of them weren't actually her friends. They had just hung around her because she thought she was cool, despite the fact she kept insisting she wasn't. She just happened to be born with the best possible quirk for the field test. It had been dumb luck.

But that was high school. These days, her friend group consisted of Aizawa, Thirteen, Midnight, and Best Jeanist (their agencies pared them together for jobs on occasion, so they naturally got to talking before and after.) So, when she received a text from Aizawa inviting her to coffee with his boyfriend, it wasn't exactly out of nowhere. They were known to spend some time together after work from time to time, though this would be the first time Yamada was with them, though she just figured he had finally gotten some time off or something. They had arranged a day where she didn't have any work from her own hero agency, so she didn't need to worry about that.

Upon walking into the coffee shop, she smiled in greeting at the two men. "I'll be right over." She said, going to the counter to get her own drink. She contemplated coffee, but ended up getting an Iced Chai Tea. Kaia didn't like hot drinks, even when it was cold out, as such, she had mastered making all the classics in cold versions. She sat down across from them when she finally had her drink, and smiled once again in greeting. She was wearing her usual clothing: An oversized black hoodie that went almost all the way to her knees, shorts underneath the hoodie, so you couldn't even tell she was wearing them, and knee high gothic boots with a thick sole. The sleeve of the arm that was currently holding her drink was pulled back, revealing fingerless gloves, and her nails. Which were currently painted a bright green. It occurred to her then: that Yamada probably hadn't seen her face since high school. Her hero outfit covered her entire face, after all, and they always wore their hero outfits when teaching.

Surprisingly enough, she spoke first, though it might have been because she was comfortable around Aizawa, and her voice wasn't very loud. "Thanks for inviting me. I'm sure getting time to yourselves is difficult." It did feel kind of nice to be included during a time that most people would just want to spend with their significant other. She made sure to at least try and make sure Yamada felt like she was talking to the both of them, and not just Aizawa, even though she barely knew the blonde man. Honestly, it was about time she finally got around to getting to know him. He had been dating her friend for quite a while now.

-----

Aizawa waved his hand dismissively, giving Kaia a tiny smile. "Don't worry about it. We live together, so I get to see plenty of his annoying ass."

"Sho!" Hizashi leaned back, dramatically grabbing at the front of his chest. "I can't believe you said I'm annoying!"

"Am I incorrect?"

"Well... No, but still, in front of Hasegawa!" Yamada gestured to the woman. "I'm trying to make my best impression after all! Which reminds me--" The blond turned to face Kaia, smiling warmly and extending his hand to her-- "I know we work together, but I figure a proper introduction is in order! Hizashi Yamada! Sho has told me a lot about you. All good things, of course!"

Aizawa leaned back slightly in his chair, sipping at his coffee as his boyfriend took over on introductions. He could always count on the other man doing that for him, letting the tired teacher's mind wander to other things. Like now, he was pondering just how Kaia would respond to their offer. After all, he had always known her to be a private woman and this... Well, while it was an accepted thing, it wasn't exactly common. And there was the matter of the late boyfriend. He didn't want to offend her by bringing this up, but would it?

God, he had no idea and it was just giving him a headache.

-----

Kaia couldn't help but laugh when the two men bickered. It was cute, and despite Aizawa's words, she could tell he loved the other man. She took another sip of her drink when Yamada officially introduced himself. Which was technically uncalled for (she knew who he was), but was still polite. When he mentioned that Aizawa said only good things about her, her chest jumped a little as she held back what would have been very loud laughter had she not stopped herself. Instead, what escaped her was a short bark of laughter before her free hand slapped itself over her mouth to stop the rest.

"Aizawa? Saying nice things? Don't lie to me, Yamada, I can handle it." But she winked at Aizawa to show both men that she was only joking. "Kaia Hasegawa." She added, just to be polite in return. He also knew who she was.

The thought might have occurred to her earlier, but it hit her again now. She was really grateful that they had invited her out of her apartment. It was... lonely there with just her cat for company. And cats were pretty independent. All she needed to do was give her food, water, and clean out the litter box. She honestly hadn't had the cat all that long, but her first one ran away, and then she was lonely again for a while before she got up the nerve to go to the shelter for another one. But thankfully, this cat was a sweetheart. A total lap cat. And, at first, she was enough. But Kaia longed for human interaction on a more daily basis. And it didn't help matters that she was pretty sure she was developing feelings for Aizawa (who was very much taken). She hadn't been in a relationship since she was nineteen, and her naturally shy disposition made making friends and meeting people difficult.

Bringing herself out of her musings, she focused on the men in front of her, and smiled once again. it was a shy smile, but no less dazzling. "It is nice to meet you though, Yamada. We're long overdue, I think."

She remembered him from school, and had always regretted not going up to him herself. He had seemed fun to be friends with. But, she had always been shy, and the only reason she had any friends (if you could call them that) in school was because they approached her first.

-----

God, that smile. It just about knocked out both Hizashi and Shota right then and there. There was no denying how cute Kaia was. Yamada kept his cool and his smile plastered on his face while Aziawa hid his light blush behind a long sip of his coffee. “Oh, definitely long overdue,” Yamada agreed, nodding. “But, the life of a pro, teacher, and hit radio show host keeps ya busy! But seriously, it’s a real pleasure to be able to finally meet ya in a bit more personal way, Hasegawa.” He settled back into his seat, flicking some of his blond hair back behind his shoulders.

“So, Hasegawa,” Aizawa began, settling his mug back on the table. “I hope everything’s been well with you. Cat’s been behaving and not too much of handful. But you know me. I’m not one to be around the bush and draw out conversations.”

“Sho, really? This fast?” Yamada asked, cocking his head to one side.

Shota simply nodded, sipping at his drink again. “Yes, this fast. It’s a question that deserves to be brought up as soon as possible. Like ripping a bandaid off or a mother bird teaching her chick how to fly.”

Hizashi paused for a moment before sighing, giving his boyfriend a nod. He knew when the raven-haired man was set on doing something and how long it would take to talk him out of it. Which would be just as long as actually doing small talk and waiting to ask Kaia their burning question.

Shota cleared his throat and fixed his gaze on Kaia, his eyes unusually soft. There might even be a hint of… yep, just the smallest bit of nervousness in his dark eyes. “Hasegawa, you know that Yamada and I are in a relationship. Lately we’ve been taking and discussing where we’d like this relationship to go and certain feelings that I’ve had and we’ve come to agree on extending you an… offer of sorts.” He paused for a moment before continuing. “I know you haven’t been in a relationship in quite some time but… Hasegawa, would you like to become a part of Yamada and I’s relationship?”

Kaia couldn't help but quirk a brow at their short back and forth. What were they getting at? Surely it was none of her business, though, so she just took another sip of her drink. Luckily, she managed to swallow it before their question hit her ears.

Would you like to be part of Yamada and I's relationship?

If this had been a comedy, you would have heard the scratch of a record coming to a halt, as the corresponding music stopped. She was so surprised, in fact, that her quirk reacted to her emotional state. The change flew off the table next to them, thunking uselessly on the cushion of the booth seats by the window. She even pushed Yamada's chair away from the table. Upon doing so, the panic rose within her like molten lead, and she reigned her quirk back in, and used it to gently pull the blond man's chair back to the table.

"I am so sorry, Yamada! I was just... really surprised."

That was embarrassing! She hadn't lost control of her quirk in a very long time. At least since High School. It was just... Way more than she could have expected. However, to her credit, she managed to get ahold of her emotions fairly quickly after that. However, before she answered them, she had some questions. She took a sip of her drink to solve her suddenly dry throat problem.

"Before I answer... Why me?"

She knew there were more questions rattling around in her head, but they all flew out of her ear save for that one. She had never seen herself as anything special. Not when she made it into UA with laughably high scores (after all, they were still doing the field test with robots, and her quirk was magnetism...), not when she was named one of the Big Three of her year; never really. So, what did these two see in her? I mean... Yamada barely knew her, so it stood to reason that it was Aizawa's idea, and Yamada approved it. Though she supposed Yamada could have suggested it, and she was Aizawa's choice...

She pushed all these thoughts to the back of her head, however, instead waiting on their answer.
