Rumors weren't meant to reach her ears, but she knew how to listen.

The tongues of her congregation wagged incessantly, but seemed mute when compared to what her brothers and sisters in the priesthood had to say. Whenever a moment of blissful silence descended outside their prayers, surely it would be filled just as quickly by the gossip and rumors of the outside. This rumor, in particular, left her intrigued.

They said he was a particularly rare and prized gem of the harem, a young man with wild hair and eyes that were almost too catlike. The most popular version of the story claimed that he was an incarnation of Bast herself, plucked one day from the slave markets of Thebes, and that Pharaoh had taken him to the harem in order to subjugate the goddess living within. A man, and an intact one at that, within the harem certainly was almost unheard of for the danger it could present to the royal bloodline. Unless, of course, the man was an Omega. None of these whispers ever clarified on that fact, but perhaps she would find out soon enough on her own. She'd just been assigned as the new priest-in-residence for the harem, and she would be meeting with all her new congregants later that day.

Atham hefted her small parcel of necessities and boarded the barge that would take her down-river to the palace.
