Raven, Cat, and Fox [Black Butler]

Post by NicTheDjinn »

Odhran can barely remember his childhood home, how the misty hills and cliffs of Ireland were a pleasure to explore, haunt and play. It was amusing, watching humans try to keep his kind away-- believing them to be so easily deterred when truly famished. Sure, the catnip, milk and play time were a great, but they were just that. When he was hungry, he was willing to take some drunken fool to an early grave to get his fill. Though, humans weren't aware that his kind weren't all witches-- nor were all witches cat sidhe in disguise. He was fair like a proper lady-- in both his natural and human guises-- making it terribly easy to lure the weak into his will, and devour them at his leisure.

It was fun to bring them to an abandoned cottage, only to reveal his true nature, and give chase the moment his quarry ran. He had hunted in this manor mostly to keep himself entertained-- there was little a human can do in way of harming his kind, spare for iron and salt, but normally, his prey carried no such thing, especially when planning to get a pint. Plus, the horror on a man's face upon realizing he was simply a rather fair, beautiful man was a delight, though, he has had some meals that swung that way, and only knew fear when he changed forms, or slit their throats once he'd reached bliss in their laps.

Its good to eat well after a bit of exercise, after all~

Alas, he'd been cocky, and as such, had been made drunk himself-- had been given catnip tea with warm milk and a touch of honey, making him weak enough to be bound, both physically and metaphysically. A witch for gold had been hired by a carnyman to capture those of his ilk-- various fairies and fae, slirits and monsters from all over the globe. The man even had a poor mermaid, as well as a Kirin and a Kitsune!! The fox was clearly the carnyman's favorite-- dolling him up, making him the main attraction, and never allowing a hair be harmed on his pretty head.

Odhran envied Haru greatly in that regard, as well as the others. They were always punished after the final shows, punished for not being perfectly cued, out of rhythm, or seemingly for no reason at all. Odhran believed he had the worst of it-- if not for his resilience coming naturally to him like breathing, he would have been dead nine times over. Though, some things did not heal perfectly-- the scars he bore were made with iron scissors, iron-tipped whips, and being trapped in a circle of salt too small to rest within, and with the seal upon him, he couldn't shift into the size of a housecat to allow himself peace without the carnyman's permission.

They eventually set up camp outside of London, the tents and booths being set up by the staff and creatures who were able in taste, and the next day, the humans came. They came to see the 'creatures'-- there were many sceptics-- as well as the performances by said creatures. One would think someone would believe it all, and try to save those trapped in the troupe, give them the justice long overdue on their captor and warden. At least Haru did what he could to make everything bearable each passing night-- bringing fruits to those trapped, as well as hunted meat to those that needed the protein or just the blood itself. Haru brought all the prey to Odhran first, let him eat their small souls before cooking or otherwise preparing the meat to those that needed it. It wasn't perfect, but Haru was genuine, wanting to do what he could to make sure the least amount of creatures perish.

When the last day of the carnival came, it was hard for him to remain calm, 'perfect' for the shows he participated in. He knows he's made three mistakes during his performances this week, and he knew his warden was displeased with how he handled little brats throwing trash at him. How was he supposed to react? He didn't even hurt the kid, beyond making him fall on his ass in terror when Odhran made a clawless swipe at him. Why must he be made to suffer so?

When the final act began, he sauntered into the ring, as large as a jungle cat, his sleek, blue-black fur glossy in the spotlight as he stood prouder than he felt, his eyes quietly askong anyone to put a stop to this-- free him and the others from this fate. But, he performed-- conjuring will-o-wisps, fading into mist, before appearing as a small housecat, then his mortal form, only clad in a almost too thin silk nightgown, the lights baring his silhouette to the crowd at times, while his all too long hair draped gently over his shoulders and chest. Then, came the demeaning tricks-- back in his larger form, he was made to jump through rings of fire, balance upon too small pedestals, and try to navigate a large rubber ball without breaking rhythm, or falling off. He was doing quite well, up until he swore he saw a familiar glint of red in the crowd, and the scent of a raven in the guise of man. Alas, he stepped out of tempo, and in his haste to recover, he had, unfortunately, popped the ball beneath him, earning a few warning cracks from the carnyman, who was playing ringleader in the show. He carried off the remains if the ball in his mouth, doing what he could to hide the fear in his heart, though, his steps were too stiff, his tail low, and back arched faintly. All eyes were on him, and he had to pretend he was fine-- pretend he wasn't going to be tortured tonight for his failings that long, Hellish week.

Once the crowds were gone, the majority of the carnival packed up, he and a few others were brought into the performance tent for their punishments. Naturally, he was beaten without much mercy-- really, it was a miracle he was awake after it all this time. As Haru patched everyone up to the best of his abilities, it hurt Odhran to breathe-- he couldn't see in his right eye because of the salt rubbed into it, and this time, he had been stabbed and slashed with an iron knife the bastard human had made just for the cat sidhe. It all hurt so terribly, made him wish he could die, end this suffering, but sadly, he was far too sturdy to die from this. It will hurt a long, long while, well into his next performances in the next town or city or country, even, and he was sure to be punished further as a result.

Haru stayed with him that night, wanting to help him sleep far more easily-- he'd brushed the salt off of Odhran's thin blanket in his shipping cart beforehand-- and held him as the feline wept, clinging as well as his broken hamds allowed him to. As he sobbed into the fox's chest, one image and thought came to mind, present well into his eventual slumber:

The tail-coated raven; and why did he stand there and watch, do nothing?

Odhran didn't have any answers that made sleep come any easier, and soon, the respite of slumber finally took him, while wrapped in Haru's warm arms and tails.

-----

So this was what passed as a carnival, these days. Muddy roads carved by the hundreds of shoes, dirty puddles laying in wait to splash up onto one’s clothing. Tasteless, doughy food being served by disgusting, sweaty men. It lacked bright colors-instead washed out in greys and browns- or any sort of enjoyable scents- just dirt, just people, humanity in its crudest form.

“Sebastian. I want one of those.”

Red eyes followed to what his Master was pointing out, examining fluffy pink sugar with distaste.

“You shouldn’t, my Lord. It will spoil your supper.”

The human frowned in his usual manner when his requests were rejected, though he did not press further. He always could uncover his mark, demand it of him, but he wouldn’t, not for this.

No, Ciel seemed determined to only use that out when absolutely necessary, something the raven-haired man didn’t terribly mind.

He navigated his Master around a muddy stretch, doing everything in his power to keep Ciel’s clothing clean and pristine. After all… A Phantomhive butler had to be able to do at least this much.

The largest tent awaited them, painted signage declaring it the main event, the show everyone was coming to see.

‘Freaks and Magical Creatures, Tamed by Human hands! Here to Perform For Your Entertainment!’

This was what had brought them, what the Queen felt she needed to send her Loyal Dog out for… An enclave of supposed mythical beings, right on London’s doorstep. A danger, surely, if the ringmaster saw fit to releasing them into the populace… Or if they revolted, releasing themselves. It was hard enough keeping the city in order with just humans, who couldn’t make fire or steal away souls.

Ever the dutiful butler, Sebastian found the cleanest place for his Lord to sit, placing a cloth over the stained and splintered wooden bench. He stood dutifully behind him, arm before his waist as the show began. Indeed, it did seem that the ringleader boasted a large number of foreign creatures, Sebastian leaning over his Master’s shoulder to inform him about each one…

“What about this one?”

The raven’s eyes were drawn to Odhran’s sleek coat, watching him move in the flame-lit arena.

“He appears to be a Cat Sidhe, my Lord.”

There was a ‘tsk’ sound from the young man’s lips, obviously not a particular fan of this news. His allergies would not abide even a Sidhe in the form of a cat, surely.

“What causes scars like that on a Cat Sidhe?”

Sebastian looked again, and found himself meeting the creature's eyes. Eyes full of pain, begging to be saved. It seemed to break the performer’s concentration, Ciel jumping when the ball popped and gracing his smug demon with a glare.

“Iron, my Lord. Iron and Salt.”

Ciel nodded, his lips set tight as he came to a decision.

“Sebastian. Go get the paperwork.”

Hours later, and the negotiations were in full swing. The ringmaster seemed quite excited to have his little business funded by none other than the Phantomhives… Until it became clear that Ciel had no intention of keeping the business running.

“We’ll be liquidating this asset, of course, and terminating the contracts of the performers.”

Sebastian smiled as the man across from them visibly reddened.

“But… It took so much work to catch them! And if you let them go…” The man paled, seeming to realize how many different beings might be coming for vengeance.

Lips upturned, the demon fixed the man with his most amenable smile.

“That will not be an issue.”

Moments later, and the man’s twisted legs were hitting the mud-and-straw strewn ground, in the tent the performers were housed in. The guttural screams ripped from his throat were likely a rude awakening. Once it seemed most of the creatures were paying attention, the demon smiled congenially, throwing the human to the ground.

“I am here to inform you all, there has been an unfortunate series of layoffs… The Phantomhive Estate offers it’s apologies, and wishes you well in the future.” The butler bowed, his eyes glowing red when he rose, mirroring the flames outside burning away the rest of the carnival… Best to send the message loud and clear. Such things were not to be tolerated.

The demon made his way around, breaking the locks on each and every cage, bowing when he reached the Cat Sidhe. Crouching down, Sebastian swung open the cage's door then gesturing at the broken human behind him.
The man was still screaming and squirming, his shattered limbs rendering it all pointless.

“I believe you have some use for that?”

-----

When the carnyman's cries of agony rang through the air, both Odhran and Haru woke with a start, looking at the source of those screams-- as well as the man that dragged them out of that vile human. The raven in disguise must have broken him himself, and when he made his announcement, there was a deafening silence beneath the ringmaster's pained walls-- then, came the sobs of joy, cheers and snarls of all the poor souls that had been suffering a hell by that selfish human's hands. Odhran and Haru were silent, though-- looking on with disbelief, and only really letting reality sink in when the raven freed them all, though, having the devil-butler *bow* to them made Odhran's face warm.

At the generous invitation to take his abuser's life-- his soul to eat himself-- Odhran, again was thrown off guard, but, in moments, with Haru's help, he was brought to the ring, and aided in silencing the ugly bastard once and for all, the feline devouring his soul ravenously. It was almost tragic, really, how clearly starved he was, but for now, this was enough. This would be enough until he was healed enough to hunt on his own.

It probably came as a surprise to the young human and his butler as when the other creatures were freed, they were more concerned about rejoicing and leaving soon after taking a piece of the ringleader for themselves to eat, without casting a glance towards London. For some, their homes were closer, but for others, they had a long, long trek. But, a good many had made family here, and would be fine so long as they stayed together in their travels.

As for Haru and Odhran, they could only sit and watch everyone slowly trickle out into the darkness, now free to live again. For them, however, they were lost. Haru's temple had been destroyed while he'd been trapped, meanwhile Odhran wouldn't be able to ride on an iron and steel boat, or else he would have been on his feet, despite his wounds. It would be a miracle if he could see through his eye after how much salt had been rubbed into it. Really, they only had each other right now, and the world was such a strange, dangerous place for their ilk.

But, once the other performers and captives had been long gone, Odhran looked to Sebastian, shaky, but out of an anxious hope, softly quashed by a fear of rejection. Haru was able to see how the feline was hoping to join Sebastian and his master, and seeing as how Odhran was the only one Sebastian had bowed to personally, he had a good feeling the raven was interested in him, at least in some regard. "Sir?" The fox began, his English smooth, but holding the accent of his home. "Do you possibly know where Odhran and I may stay, at least for the night? Then, where we may procure a wooden boat?" He asked, hoping the butler would be.... Generous, even if it was only for a short time. The young human looked irritated, yet also perplexed as he occasionally looked to his feline companion. Was he allergic to cats? Luckily, Odhran was hypoallergenic!! All the same.... It appeared to be up to the young man whether they would get help or not.

-----

A delicately gloved hand covered one sapphire-blue eye, bracing the young man’s back against his chest as the creatures tore apart their abuser. Even after all Ciel had seen, all the mangled corpses, viscera and blood, the Master still had a tendency to become sick from witnessing such carnage. It was the job of a Butler to shield him from such visages, of course, even as the young man protested.

“Sebastian, I-“

“Now now my Lord… It wouldn’t do for the Phantomhive Heir to get sick in front of so many people… Be patient, they will all be done, soon.” This was met with an irritated grunt.

“That was one time. I hardly need you to shield me from brutality.” Even so, he allowed the demon’s hand to remain.

Glowing red eyes pierced the smoke and smog, looking on until there was not a piece of the carneyman left. Mud and straw churned under various shapes and sizes of feet, the scent and stain of blood buried under the earth, likely to never be found. Between that and the burning remains of the tents, it was almost like the circus had never _been_ here… Which was well enough.

Upon Ciel’s release from the demon’s hold, the young man wrenched himself away, shooting Sebastian an annoyed look before watching the stream of creatures dissipating. Just for a moment, Sebastian saw relief in the young man’s eye. It would have been quite a feat to deter them from London, should they have had an interest in invading the city… Such an outcome would have been unfortunate, and bothersome.

Sebastian turned away from the scene, prepared to go fetch the carriage. “Master, I do feel this matter has been resolved to the Queens liking, shall we return-“ His question halted as the kitsune spoke, coattails flapping in the fire-spawned breeze as he looked to the two that remained. Ah, the Cat Sidhe… With the beautiful, lustrous coat, ah, he could only imagine how soft it would be. He was less excited over the Fox, as he wasn’t a fan of dogs, though foxes were a bit of a cross between cats and dogs, weren’t they? Perhaps he would enjoy those fluffy tails just the same…

“Master?” He looked to Ciel, his own preference fairly obvious. “It would be undue for a Lord to turn away those in need, surely… The townhouse in London has room for two more.” Plump lips upturned in a knowing smile as the young man fixed him with his patented glare.

“...Very well. You may both stay in our care… For tonight. We will go about finding a boat for you tomorrow.” His particular dislike of the situation was quite apparent, the young man’s face creased into a frown.

A languid grin spread over the butler’s face, the demon making his way down to the two, offering a gloved hand to each. “I am Sebastian, as you have no doubt gathered. Please, if you need anything, do not hesitate to ask… Ah, and the young Master is terribly allergic to cats, so I would ask that you ride with me in the driver’s seat, just in case.” The last bit seemed to be directed at Odhran, his tone polite and charming as always.

Perhaps he could convince the Cat Sidhe to sit in his lap and allow himself to be petted. It was so easy to imagine that silky, smooth fur under his fingers, a soft purr under the light of the moon...

-----

Haru had seen how the butler and his master interacted together, and could only smile softly. The young human had quite the attitude, and had clearly seen a great many Hells up to now, and would surely see more. It purplexed him how he came into possession of such a strong raven.... But, it would be rude to pry. All the same, should things fall into place in the ways he hoped, he may see more of them and learn naturally. Odhran was his main concern, above all else, though. The poor thing deserved at least a glimpse of paradise for everything he has gone through up til now.

Odhran was more focused on the care the demon showed the human, even if it was his duty, and he longed faintly to know how it would feel, being protected personally by the demon. Of course, he wasn't going to ask, even if the butler appeared sweeter on him than the others. He didn't want to make a fool of himself-- take a leap of faith only to come crashing down onto a pit of despair. Still, as with many who have seen abuses like he has, any kindness will be clung to, cherished as long as it's available, even if it comes at a price, or if it was only kindness, and nothing more.

When the butler spoke with his master, it was a relief to the pair as they heard that their request would be fulfilled, Haru mostly relieved for Odhran's sake. The poor thing needed at least one good night's rest to be well enough to brave the sea to head to Ireland, as well as a proper bath and fresh dressings for his wounds. When they were offered the butler's hand each in their greetings, Haru was charismatic himself, his handshake firm and proper. "My name is Haru, and you are too kind-- if I know my ravens well, you went above and beyond tonight.... Whether or not it was for your master's sake alone, or otherwise is to be seen." There was a soft, knowing smile on the fox's lips, a small bit of mischief in his eyes, though it appeared beneficial. "I'm more than certain should we want for anything, within reason, you wouldn't disappoint. But...." He soon whispered so only the butler would hear, "I'm more than happy to see if there was anything I may do in return for your kindness. Especially if it's to help you gain favor for your own desires." He added, glancing momentarily to the feline, then Ciel. "Of course, with a civil method, perhaps entertaining, even."

When Haru was done, it was Odhran's turn for a handshake, though both his hands were bandaged, and he was ginger when their hands met. He was tender, and hoped he wouldn't ruin the raven's glove should his wound open. But, though the grip lacked strength, the handshake proper was done well, no limp-fishing. "I-I'm Odhran, sir...." He was a bit nervous, but a sweet sort, wanting nothing more than to maintain the other's interest in him, in the hopes to have a taste of what Ciel had. Though, when told that the human was allergic to cats, his head tilted softly, a small look of confusion on his face. "But.... Fairy-cats don't have the same fur as normal cats...." He began, before quickly adding, "B-but I don't mind riding with you! Th-the seat is safe, right?" He asked, having seen some carriages having cushioned iron and or wooden seats in the past. "I-if not, would it be a bother if I took your lap? I-I'll make myself small, and I won't claw you, promise!!" The poor feline had been through quite a bit, known how cruel some can be. There was no doubt that if the demon had a mind to, he could hurt Odhran far more than any human could, and the feline didn't want that, and hoped it wouldn't happen.

But, with time and care, he'll be back to his old self, or better, and would be quite the loyal cat sidhe, with the bonus of a kitsune to lend a hand in many things.

-----

The raven’s plump lips upturned in a smile, Sebastian guiding Haru’s hand up to press the back of it to said lips. “My… What a clever fox. I do think we will get along wonderfully.” Red eyes met Haru’s, the amusement plain to be seen within them. “You will find me gracious for whatever entertainment you would like to provide, so long as it does not interfere with my duties. My Master comes first, always, you understand.” Perhaps he would like foxes after all… It remained to be seen.

Those eyes turned to Odhran shortly after, lingering on his hair and eyes… Ah, soft, so majestic… An absolutely perfect creature. It had been too long since he’d last stroked a feline of such luster, even if his mistreatment had dulled it some. “I understand, but it is best not to test the Lord’s allergies.” The raven supplied softly. “You will find our carriage of the finest wood construction, though I cannot say I would mind you in my lap, Odhran.” Again, lips pressed against the back of a hand, the demon’s glowing eyes on the Sidhe.

“Sebastian!”

The demon looked away from the two, turning to give his Master his full attention, his tails swaying behind him.

“Sir?”

“Stop flirting and go bring the carriage around! It’s getting to be late!” The young man’s teeth were grit in anger, though the Butler seemed unfazed by the expression, or the curtness of the young man’s tone. Instead he smiled brightly, eyes closed in what seemed a gesture of submission.

“Yes My Lord.” Sebastian turned back to the two before him, his hands now offered to give support, should it be needed. “If you would not mind, please wait here a moment. I will be back shortly with our transport.” He assured, leaving them to wait with Ciel as he went to procure their carriage. They had needed to leave it fairly far away, so that the flame and smoke didn’t spook the horses.

The young man seemed to have next to no interest in interacting with the two, looking annoyed as he covered his nose and mouth with a sleeve. “Cats… Out of everything, why did it have to be cats…” It seemed he wasn’t happy with the situation, even if he’d agreed to it. That damned demon had him in a bind, as a Lord he couldn’t rightly leave these two out in the cold… No matter how much he wanted to. How was it they were always picking up strays like this?! He half-suspected Sebastian did it on purpose to irritate him.

Quicker than should have likely been possible, the carriage arrived, Sebastian leaping out the driver’s seat to open the door for his Master and assist him up into the passenger’s seat.

“It’s about time.”

“Apologies my Lord. Haru?” He offered a hand out to the fox, intending to help him up inside as well.

“What? I don’t want a cat in here!”

“Haru is a Kitsune, my Lord. A fox spirit from Japan.” Sebastian explained with patience in his sonorous voice.

The young man let out a huff, facing the opposite window.

“Fine then. If my allergies start up, I’m blaming you. And the cat rides outside!”

“Yes Sir.” Sebastian smiled.

-----

The fox was pleasantly surprised when the raven had kissed the back of his hand, but he disnt mind it one bit. Especially with the other's compliments, and nodded softly to the other's conditions. "Of course, sir. If it helps, Odhran is a deeply heavy sleeper when he feels safe, and I'm certain he'll be able to be moved without a fuss, should he nap. And, just to be clear, is your master touch or sneezing allergic to cats? And how sensitive? If you let him, he'll most certainly warm up to you easily, and probably won't let you be unless you tell him to." He chuckled quietly. "He also adores soft scratches to his nose bridge, and gentle rubbing along his eyes. Oh! And catnip tea works wonders to help him sleep if he's having a rough time." Haru added, his own soft rubies bearing a sweetness as he spoke of the feline. "I do hope that, while you can, you'll make him happy in your free time."

When it was Odhran's turn to have his hand kissed, he immediately erupted into a loud purr, his cheeks warming greatly at the gesture. The poor thing was speechless for a while, especially when his soft winter-sky blue eyes met the other's deep red. But, he did nod in understanding, knowing some humans were more fragile than most-- Sebastian's master seeming quite young, possibly smaller than what was normal for his age. Even if he seemed quite against the sidhe's presence, he didn't seem mean about it, necessarily. Just careful about his health. Maybe he had asthma? Also.... Its rare to see a demon contracted to a child.... He's more than likely seen Hell in some way already.

He was taken from his thoughts when the small human scolded Sebastian for 'flirting'-- Haru snickered, his ears perking high, while poor Odhran was flustered, ears lowering faintly as his tail tucked between his legs. The remaining trio watched as Sebastian left for the carriage, the feline a bit anxious, meanwhile Haru watched Ciel with amusement, noting how he avoided both. Perhaps he worried about Odhran's fur being stuck to him from how close they were? When he heard the comment, Haru snickered again, having half a mind to release his tails, though they took up quite a bit of space. Meanwhile the feline sulked a bit, but it couldn't be helped. Even if he proved to be safe somehow for the young Earl, he doubted he'd appreciate or at least tolerate his company beyond customary politeness.

However, both the fox and cat were surprised by how quickly the carriage arrived, and even more so at how impatient Ciel seemed. Yes, Sebastian is a demon, but those horses were natural-- and they didn't seem any sort of stressed or inconvenienced. But, when offered a hand into the carriage, with Sebastian gently correcting his master on his species, Haru laughed warmly, allowing two tails out for a couple of moments, the fur a nice, silky black with silver tips. "I'll behave and keep to my side of the carriage, young Earl. If you sneeze even once, I'll relocate outside." He promised, before taking a seat, his tails fading from view like a mirage.

When it was Odhran's turn to get onto the carriage, he carefully got up, and once on the seat, he shifted into a rather small cat-- well, more like that adorably gangly phase all kittens get to before adulthood, though that may partly be due to the fact he was malnourished. All his bandages also adjusted to his size and shape as well, revealing more bandaging than was visable prior. In addition to his arms, eye and neck, his upper torso and legs were bandaged too. But, from what fur was free, it was fairly sleek, and seemed regularly cold-washed at least. He waited patiently for Sebastian to sit, before gingerly climbing into his lap, then laying as comfortably as he could. He looked up with his good eye, a soft purr leaving him just by beong in the raven's lap. 'Th-thank you again, sir....' His voice echoed softly seemingly to the butler alone.

-----

The raven took the fox’s advice to heart, chuckling softly. “I see. What kind of butler would I be if I couldn’t keep my Master’s guests happy..?” The answer came with a tilt of the raven’s head, his eyes shimmering in the moonlight. “Ah, but yes. It does seem being within a few feet of a cat makes his breathing become difficult, to answer your question.”

Then to the Sidhe… Ah, such a lovely sound. That purr softened the demon’s face a bit, like a great beast soothed by Odhran’s sweet music…

Even with Haru’s assurances when the fox was being helped up into the carriage, the Young Lord didn’t seem terribly put at ease. He crossed one leg over the other, chin resting in his hand as one blue eye looked out the window into the dreary night. A fox… Probably wasn’t much better than a cat, and he didn’t like the looks Haru and Sebastian had shared, almost as if the two were plotting something.

Outside, Sebastian took his place at the reigns, patting his lap for the Sidhe to join him, crimson eyes still seeming quite amused.

“What a gorgeous creature… You are more than welcome.” He murmured, gloved fingers gently stroking along the top of his head, then down along the bridge of his nose. “Even managing to take care of your fur in that situation… What perseverance.” The carriage rocked into motion, the horses hooves first packing down along the muddy streets of the long-burnt circus. It didn’t take long to reach the properly cobbled streets, the stomping shifting to a bright clopping as they traveled through the quiet, foggy London streets. The demon’s steering was absolute, even as he was preoccupied with the fae in his lap. Fingers stroked down Odhran’s back, taking in as much texture as he could through the fine, soft leather. “So distinguished.” Lips upturned in a smile, a single finger traced along the feline’s jawbone, gently scratching under his chin. Every caress and maneuver was precise, the demon managing to explore and compliment the majority of the Sidhe, even without aggravating his wounds or disrupting his bandages. A thumb pressed into the center of a paw pad, applying just enough pressure for Odhran’s claws to unsheathe. “My, how lethal.” The raven chuckled, gently massaging along each digit until those paws relaxed.

As the carriage continued to move, Ciel glanced across the coach box to the other passenger, frowning slightly. “A Kitsune from Japan… How is it that you found yourself all the way here… Did that man really travel all the way there for a fox spirit?” Come to think of it, a fair amount of those creatures had been from a variety of locations, based upon what Sebastian had told him of each one. How would such a seemingly destitute and lazy man have had the wherewithal to travel in search of such a menagerie...

-----

"That is a relief to hear. The poor thing is in need of much tender love and care after everything he's been through and seen...." Haru's smile grew sad for a moment, before he grew attentive as Sebastian explained the young master's allergy severity. "I see.... Is it limited to being around felines, or will clinging fur be an issue as well? Poor Odhran sheds something dreadful when stressed-- but, I'm sure after a good bath and a brushing, as well as your available spoiling, he'll be nothing terrible." The fox assured, glancing to his feline companion.

Once situated comfortably in the raven's lap, he melted in a happy little mess of purrs as he was pet so gently, so thoroughly. He couldn't help it as his eyelids grew heavy, his tail gently draping and curling about the demon's thigh. 'It could be softer.... I normally would bathe with proper soap and warm water....' He barely managed in his blissful daze, his mouth faintly ajar, his purrs sounding a bit more crackly. He was rather pliant as the butler caressed his chin, then gently played with his paws, though his claws were in need of a trim. At least he'll be able to soon.

Meanwhile in the cabin, Haru perked as the young Earl spoke to him, and a sad, grim expression came over him, his ears growing slack. "Well, I'm sure you're aware of human trafficking.... It isn't much different for those that had been trapped in that Hellish circus. There are traps for most anything-- spare for the greater fae and the like. Some creatures can be made through terrible rituals or circumstance-- much like the necrotic deer beast born of cannibalism from the other continent across the sea. I used to be a temple fox-- a protector for my territory, answering prayers within my power. A boon of good fortune, a hearty harvest, good health for a generation or to cure a loved one.... But, my Hoshi no Tama had been stolen, and most of my power went with it. But.... Despite that, I wouldn't have met Odhran otherwise. He's such a sweet thing, once you're close and dear to him. And.... Fiercely loyal, and, admittedly, scary when properly enraged. Much like a panther of the Amazons." He chuckled faintly, before looking to where the feline would be. "Thank you again for letting us stay with you for a night-- gods know what would happen if we were tracked down and caught once more before we could flee." He sighed softly, before his ears perked a moment, his nose twitching subtly.

"Say.... Have you and your Raven been bothered by Grimms, or Reapers? There's a faint smell of soul-dust and glass about the two of you." He asked, head tilted faintly. "Those folks are certainly a handful-- they aren't took big a fan of soul-eaters like Odhran, though.... With cat sidhes, they're more troublesome, even seen as a bother to them. So long as they keep a steady diet, they're practically immortal-- right now, though he's rather frail at the moment, he still have five lives to him, should a Reaper try to be rid of him." He hummed, smiling with a similar mischief to the butler, "Once on his paws again, he'll work back up to nine, and be quite the handful."

“Once we arrive, I would be more than happy to draw you up a proper bath, and acquire whatever else you need.” A little smile formed on plump lips as the offer was made. “Perhaps even a meal, or two?” The little smile softened, red eyes glowing in the soft, otherworldly light of the moon. Acquiring a few souls for Odhran to sup wouldn’t be hard… They were in London, after all, and the Raven was more than sure he could snap up a couple of vagabonds without a single passerby batting an eye. People went missing all the time along these foggy, darkened streets... What were a few more to feed a starving Sidhe?

Besides, he could only imagine how much more breathtaking Odhran would look once healed and in good health. How soft he would be, how much louder would that sweet purr grow? Imagining it almost brought a tremble to his gloved hands.

“Three… No, four, perhaps? Not a problem for a skilled Butler. Do you have any requests, preferences?” The demon’s voice was soft and sensual, his long gloved fingers still stroking the Cat Sidhe, occasionally gently scratching behind his ears. “I would of course prefer to serve you something you could fully enjoy.”

Ciel listened, making note of a few words and ideas he would have to ask Sebastian about later. He was in no way unintelligent, but even with a demon tutor, there were things he didn’t know. “I see. Both of you have been through a lot. It’s lucky the Queen sent me to put a stop to it sooner than later… There's a good chance the next time he moved the circus he would have gone outside our reach.” The young man is still a little bitter about having to house these two beings but nods at the thanks anyway. “There is no need to thank me. As Sebastian said, it is my duty as a noble.”

There's a noticeable shift in the young Lord Phantomhive as the Reapers are brought up. His scowl seems deeper, brows furrowing as his gaze returns out the window as he remembers all that red. That damn Reaper. “Yes, they’ve become a nuisance in my affairs more than once… If he really is such a bother to them, I’d be tempted to keep him around.” Ciel’s little snort of derision is quiet and brief, though his smile falters again as he sees the Kitsune’s expression… It reminded him much too much of the smile that demon would wear when plotting something or withholding information.

-----

Odhran's purring hiccuped at the mention of Sebastian drawing a bath for him, among getting him fed more at that too, and possibly beyond that. "I-I don't know what I could ask for-- well, I know, but.... I don't want to impose...." He really was a sweet thing, and definitely has matured a good amount since his entrapment. However, the trauma did leave a mark, it seems. "Th-the most I can ask of you would be a change of clothes.... And as far as food goes, I'm quite alright with most anything at this point.... Spare for children. They are off limits unless they're dark and twisted beyond redemption...." He replied, sobering a bit, only for the butler's gentle touches to pull him into a peaceful state once more.

And, in that pliant state of mind, and with Sebastian's gentle coaxing, he relented, at least somewhat. "I guess my favorites to eat up were men drunk on ale and whiskey.... Drunk enough to think I was a lady." He purred out, recalling his misty home. "And.... The violent and or lascivious type of drunk, at that. Even if I was feeding, I'd prefer making the area I hunted a better place if I could.... You wouldn't believe how many sweet ladies, girls and grannies who took care if me suffered at the hands of ugly men." He sobered a moment more, before letting himself melt again. "Its probably foolish, thinking like that.... Being soft for certain humans...." He yawned softly, his pristine teeth glinting in the lamp lights.

"Your queen is kind and just, I've heard. Wanting to expand, but never stepling on toes.... Gentle with children and those frail." Haru smiled, then frowned a moment. "But, that is the face she shows to world-- I do hope she at least bears a sobered yet hopeful smile for your well being and success. You're young, and yet you must fuss with cases like ours.... I can only imagine what you may habe seen thus far." The fox frowned properly then, saddened. "A child should be allowed to be a child, after all.... But, feel its fair to guess you had no choice when it was ripped from you, seeing as how you have quite the strong raven at your side. I bet he's on par with the Kurasu Tengu of my home, if not stronger." Haru grew silent for a moment, before bowing deeply, "Please forgive me if that was too forward, assuming.... I have to admit, I have too much of a weak spot for children...." The fox admitted softly, before finally raising his head back up.

When the fox saw how the young man reacted to the mention of Reapers, he soon smiled again, mischief and hope in his heart. "Well.... I'm sure if it would be beneficial, and quarters were arranged for him on the grounds, he could make for an outdoor cat, mousing pests and reapers alike. And.... Being a cat, he can hear things much sooner or clearer than any average eavesdropper, especially when they neglect to consider him more than a mere feline. Of course, cats are magical creatures in their own right, but a sidhe is.... Flexible." Haru proposed, calm and cunning, but bearing no ill will. "You wouldn't have to worry about allergies unless the sweet boy loved on someone heavily before they came to see you. Of course, a lint roller can easily fix that problem, too."

Sebastian continued to pet the little sidhe as he made his desires known. “Clothes will be no issue, I assure you. We will likely have a few sets of clothing that should fit you with a little tailoring.” The assurance dripped from his lips like the sweetest honey. “I am more than sure I could provide a fair amount of drunks for your appetite… This is London, after all. Even on a dreary night such as this one, men will seek to ease their tensions with a drink, or several.” He chuckled, rubbing along the Sidhe’s spine. “Violent and lascivious drunks are the city’s specialty, it so happens. I shall see to it, as soon as my Master is sleeping soundly.” The Raven assured while a long finger stroked under the feline’s chin, then down his throat.

Ceil looked out the carriage window, his expression displaying annoyance. “That was indeed much too forward. I am not a child that needs pity or to be hidden away from the bad of the world. I have seen the worst of mankind, and there is no pretending things are alright and moving on blindly through life, anymore.” It was hard to believe such a young man could bite out words that were at once so biting and so unfeeling… “I am Lord Phantomhive, Head of the Phantomhive household. Age is of no consequence.”

He only returned the gaze of that one blue eye to the kitsune when he presented the proposition. “You’re suggesting I allow another strange individual into my home. A mouser for Reapers…” When it was put that way, the idea was somewhat tempting. Certainly the less he saw of his aunt’s killer the better. He could already imagine Sebastian laying it out like that, in such a reasonable fashion that rejecting it would make him seem like a petulant child. How utterly irritating.

“We’ve arrived.” Came the Butler’s voice from the driver’s seat as they finally drew to a halt outside the townhouse Ceil was occupying during his London holiday… He still didn’t see why Nobles insisted upon such a thing. The young lord would much rather be at his own Manor in the countryside, without the noise and smog the city brought.

The Raven held the cat sidhe gently in his arms as he gracefully dismounted from the driver’s seat, cleaned and shined shoes barely making a sound as they landed upon cobble. While supporting Odhran with one arm, the other opened the carriage door, then extended to Ciel as he too departed from the carriage. The same consideration was extended to Haru, the demon’s smile curling a little at the edges as if he was aware of what they had been discussing. “I do hope the ride was pleasant. Luckily the streets are fairly clear, at this time of night, and we were able to make good time.”

His master answered him with a somewhat-bored look, turning to walk up the steps to the townhouse. “Sebastian, prepare my bedtime tea and something to go with it. I’m positively starving after someone rudely denied me any of the food at the previous location. I will be taking respite in my bedroom.”

“Yes, my Young Lord.” The butler answered, moving to open the door for Ceil, who made it a point to hold his breath while passing the Raven and his armful of Cat Sidhe. Sebastian held the door open for Haru as well, before stepping inside himself. “Would you both please join me in the kitchen? The other servants are likely sleeping, and I could use a couple of hands with preparing the Master’s dish.”

-----

Sebastian's assurances soothed the weary sidhe, allowing him to feel at ease as his needs were met. "Thank you.... Again, you're too kind, doing all of this for me...." He purred out softly, bordering on wakefulness and sleep the longer the drive carried on. The proper petting, rubbing, and the rhythm of the horses' hooves on the cobblestone were lulling the feline to sleep, slowly but surely. For once in far too long, he felt truly safe, that he wouldn't be hurt heartless anymore.

Haru still frowned as Ciel expressed his annoyance, but he bowed deeply again, out of respect. "Please forgive me, my Lord.... What had been done to you truly must have been harrowing, terrible.... Not many return from such dark places as you have, making you far stronger than most. With Sebastian at your side, I'm most certain you'll only grow stronger and stronger...." He began to respectfully smile then, using what remained of his power as a former temple fox to add his own blessing to the young man. "And, taller, too. How is your appetite, aside from sweets?" He asked, trying to change the topic.

"It sounds strange, yes, but I'm certain it would do you well in the long run. Reapers that have been denied their target via a contract can be quite dangerous, be it with cunning, patience, impatience, or any combination, really." He informed, having had his share of interactions with the Shinigami variant in his homeland. "Having Odhran on your property, and relatively close by while traveling would assure you more time, should a reaper decide to make a nuisance of themselves."

At the declaration they had arrived at the town house, Haru smiled, grateful that the ride was over. He's never really liked carriage rides-- even on more even roads, the constant vibrations made his rear numb. "What a relief-- any further and I may need a moment to get my bearings about me! Pavement can be so rough on my tails!" He laughed in good nature, before listening as the raven and his feline friend dismounted with a near-silient grace. Haru waited his turn patiently for assistance in exoting the carriage, gratefully taking the offered hand as he smiled knowingly back to Sebastian, having heard how well Odhran was promised to be treated. "It was most certainly a more pleasant ride than most I've had in the past." He chuckled softly, gently tilting his head, then laughed warmly at Ciel's rather curt order for the Raven.

Odhran wasn't bothered by how Ciel held his breath as he passed them by, and simply stayed close to the butler's chest, hoping to avoid harming the young human just from proximity somehow. Though, at Sebastian's request for help, both cat and fox nodded softly, eager. "Please lead the way, Sebastian!" Haru requested, while Odhran nervously looked down at the floor. He'll need to be set down gently before he can transform comfortably.

“You need not thank me. A Butler that could not do this much would not be worth the employ of the Lord Phantomhive.” The demon murmured, his eyes shining a brilliant red in the moonlight.

Ciel let out a huff of breath. “Very well… I’ll forgive your impertinence, this time.” The kitsune wasn’t wrong, though… Behind those sapphire eyes laid a dark memory of a world of torment, of pain and abuse upon abuse. The young Lord Phantomhive pushed the darkness back to the secluded corner of his mind where it coiled and rotted endlessly. He’d become adept at pushing it back like that, lest he spend his life in a haze like a broken doll. The corner of Ciel’s mouth curled downward. “I don’t see how my appetite is of concern to you.” Haru’s explanation did make sense, however… It seemed this might end up being an option he actually considered, which was terribly irritating. He’d kept cats out of the Manor for the longest time, both for his own allergies and to keep them from that demon…

Sebastian smiled softly at the kitsune as he guided him from the carriage. “I am glad you found it agreeable… These cobblestone streets can be quite bothersome, should one not know how to properly drive a carriage upon them.” Not that such a feat was difficult, for a demon such as he.

The young man was quick to return to his dark, well-furnished room once he’d exited the carriage and ordered the demon to cook for him. He allowed himself to fall into an overstuffed chair near a large window, staring out blankly into the dreary London streets, his chin cushioned in one petite hand. When had his home become a haven for any strange humanoid being who needed a place to stay..? The menagerie only seemed to grow with each strange mystery the Queen sicced them on…

Sebastian smiled his small, polite smile, leading the way to the quiet kitchen and lighting a few oil lamps to reveal the room's amenities. The space wasn’t terribly large, gray-bricked and home to a wood-burning stove, a sink, and a couple of counters. A small table and two chairs sat off in the corner, looking out through a window into the back garden. The demon only finally let Odhran from his arms there, setting him down carefully on one of the chairs. “Odhran, could you please get the kettle going? Haru, I would appreciate if you helped me to gather ingredients. This late at night, for a picky eater… I think pumpkin seed cake will do nicely.” The Butler commented as he removed his tailcoat and hung it on hooks by the door. The coat was replaced by a simplistic and plain apron, the Raven also taking the time to carefully roll up his sleeves. “Pumpkin seeds are supposed to help one with sleeping, though the young Lord would dislike receiving something so plain for a midnight snack… So cake it is, as much as I dislike indulging his sweet tooth this late at night…” The demon let out a soft sigh, listing out ingredients as if by memory. A gloved hand laid itself upon Haru’s shoulder, the demon leading him to the small pantry to help gather what was needed.

“I see you have taken an interest in my young Master.” The words slipped from between the demon’s plush lips like the softest of admonishments. “A blessing for growth… Lord Phantomhive would be quite annoyed if he found out.”

-----

"All the same.... You're doing all of this for a stray." Odhran replied softly, still purring away as his one good sapphire glowed similarly in the light. "And, I have reason to believe you'd still help, even if you weren't a busy raven." There came a gentle smile to his feline lips, and he rubbed his cheek against the other's chest, as he was not long enough to reach the other's face withiut climbing with his sore paws.

Haru gave a relieved smile, and nodded at the other's forgiveness. "I'm relieved, and I'll do well to avoid another blunder like that in the future, my Lord." When the young man had questioned him about his interest of appetite, though, he only chuckled softly, shaking his head. "No reason, simply curious. I've noticed that growth happens shortly after a young adult eats almost everything they can." He explained, tilting his head coyly. "Odhran can eat quite a bit before he gains another 'life', that's for certain, and it's interesting to say the least." He smiled fondly, eager to see that happen soon.

When the pair were lead off to the kitchen, Haru kept pace easily, and looked about curiously at the small space. He knew well that the space was proportionate to the townhouse, though he wondered how much space would be taken up with the prepwork needed for Ciel's late night snack. Meanwhile, once the feline was set down, he shifted into his mortal form, before setting to work with the kettle. "Would the Lord like warm milk, with a bit of vanilla and honey?" He asked softly, wondering if that would help at all. "I also know chamomile, mint, and lavender tea works very well, too." Odhran added, looking to Sebastian or input.

When Haru was lead away, and gently admonished, he chuckled good-naturedly, relaxed. "Would he now? Seems to be a young man determined to be as independent about his growth, natural or figurative, as possible." He smiled gently, no ill-will present there. "Its merely a gift, with no strings attached, I assure you. I'm certain he will grow well under your wing, but it doesn't hurt to give him a step up."
