Jackrabbit and Dynamight (BunZuku x Katsuki; ABO)

Everything just had to go wrong today, didn't it? First, there was the fact that someone had fucked the water heater, so he had to take turns that morning in a tub Todoroki warmed for everyone. Then some chucklefuck decided to try to pick a fight with him after they had the audacity to walk right into him in the hallway as 9f he was some fucking push over. After that, lunch rush's kitchen had been destroyed by some first year extras quirk misfiring big time, so everything was limited on the menu, or folks had to order in.

But, the icing on the cake occured while on his internship with Izuku under Endeavor's watch.

See, being third year's allowed them more responsibility and ability to participate in bigger heroic duties, so the budding heroes were expected to be a part of greater conflicts, within certain parameters. But, as all heroes know, there are always a possibilities for greater threats lurking behind seemingly inconsequential corners. Today was one of those days, where a seemingly simple robbery had been far more serious, intense....

Explosive, and it wasn't even Katsuki's fault, believe it or not.

It began with a chase, the blonde hot on the heels of a jackal-man, whose claws scraped on concrete, all while carrying stolen artifacts from the national museum. Now, Izuku would have been a better pick to chase this bastard, as far as catching the criminal without harming the stolen items, however, the Lapine hero had been occupied with stopping the larger cohort from crushing bystanders with a thrown police car. And so, Katsuki was the one guided into a building by the jackal, only for the bastard to speed up once they were inside, straight towards the exit. Katsuki didn't have time to wonder why the villain had stopped in the doorway with that sinister grin, as multiple explosives rang out, followed by tons of rubble falling ​on top of him.

It was a miracle he hasn't been crushed outright, however, there was another problem. Not only were his legs and his left arm pinned, all likely broken in one way or another, but regardless had been sunk through his torso, and down into the cold tile beneath him. He was trapped, even if he could blast some rubble away. The worst part was the fact that the tile was feeling wet beneath him before long, and he knew damn well when he began to feel the warmth being sapped away far faster than lying on the floor alone would do. He was losing blood, and quickly at that. He needed to remain calm, call for help-- unfortunately, the earpiece was on the side that was pinned, and the narrow space between him and the rubble above him was too narrow to move his gaunletted arm through.

All there was left to try was to call out, hope that rescue heroes were already on the way. He didn't want to die here, not like this.

Not while he was burdened with unspoken feelings, unfulfilled dreams.

What a day... Though they had all made the most of what they could and did their best to be resourceful, times when they weren't out on the field were supposed to be times of rest and relaxation. Telling considering their training was harder than ever as they prepared for their final exams at the end of the year to get their hero licenses. Still, it couldn't be helped and after such a rough start, they knew it was likely to only get rougher out on patrol. Sure enough, today couldn't be an easy day to counterbalance their morning. He really hoped the school will have fixed most, if not everything, by the time they got back. Still, there was nothing for it at the moment so they pushed through and did their best.

Sure enough, nothing was going smoothly. He ended up having to take on a villain that Katsuki would have been more suited for when the guy decided to wield a car for a weapon and Bakugou ended up chasing after a more nimble villain that he would have had an easier time with. Well, so was life... These weren't things they could really control, after all. At the very least, his well-rounded nature made it possible for to him not only stop the villain he was fighting but subdue him. He'd been a little rougher than he meant to be in his haste so he now had a very unconscious villain on his hands, but at least the fight was over. He pulled out some cuffs to restrain him while he was out, initially not letting the sound of an explosion distract him. The rumble that instantly followed was what finally had him looking over, his heart sinking as he saw a building just down the street collapse. While Katsuki's quirk was powerful enough to accomplish such a thing, he had more than enough control to avoid such things. Something was seriously wrong.

Finishing up quickly and calling in the arrest, he shifted forms into a slimmer, faster build, racing down the street to what remained of the building. His large ears shot up at attention, holding perfectly still, and even holding his breath. It only took a moment to hear exactly what he'd been fearing. Bakugou was calling for help and it was coming from under the rubble. A final shift into his smallest bunny form and he was scampering inside on light paws, listening carefully till he was sure he'd located the exact spot where the blond was entombed. A quick search around and he was picking a spot and started to frantically dig with tiny paws till he'd found a tiny space to squeeze under. He flattened his tiny body and dragged himself through tiny crannies till his head finally squeezed out into an open area, the blond no longer sounding muffled. "Ka-chan!" Came his tiny voice in the dark, little paws planting on either side of him so he could pull himself free.

Popping free, he landed lightly just next to the other's shoulder only to freeze, emerald eyes large and wide in dread. The tile was wet. The wetness was warm. He could smell blood. His little heart started to race at the realization, trying to keep himself calm as there wasn't enough space here for him to transform into a larger form that wasn't at such a high risk of heart attack. "Ka-chan... I'm here. I won't leave you." He assured, awkwardly toddling on his hind paws to let his forepaws come to rest on the blond's cheek. He removed one to press a little button that would send out a distress signal, but was soon returning his paw to join the first. "How hurt are you...?" He knew he was hurt, he could smell the blood, but he had no way of knowing how badly he was hurt in the darkness.

Katsuki was doing all he could to stay calm as he cried out for help, and thankfully, his pleas weren't in vain. When he heard a familiar voice in the dark say that treasured nickname, his heart ached. The thought of traumatizing the other further by simply dying ran through his mind, but he shook it off. He couldn't die-- who else would make sure this fluffy idiot didn't get into trouble and die before he's got a shot at #1? When he heard the small rabbit land wetly, he felt a lurch in his stomach. He was losing blood far faster than he would have liked in this situation. But, even if the other's paws were bloody, he didn't mind, simply because the other was so warm, comforting. Even if that meant his body was colder than he originally thought. When that sweet but worried voice spoke again, he took a shaky breath, "My left arm, and my legs are broken, can't tell how badly since the whole limbs are screaming agony.... But, th-the bigger problem is that there are two rebars in my torso.... One is barely below my left lung, I think, and the other is more on the right, near my...." He took in another shaky breath, trying to hide the pain and fear he was feeling, "Near my intestines, m-maybe closer to--"

He cursed sharply as more rubble settled on his left, the crunch of his gauntlet punctuating what had happened. Panic began to settle in, his breaths becoming quick and shallow eyes widening in the dark. "Y-you need to get out--" He barely managed, before he tried to look at the greenette, his eyes straining to see any detail he could on the other. "Th-the rubble's shifting, w-we can't let you die here...." His voice was pained, now, fear twisting his normal confidence into something tragic, pathetic. The poor boy believed he may die here. It was more than likely the blood loss adding onto his mortal terror, but one thing was certain.

Izuku had to live, even if Katsuki didn't. That's all the blonde cared about right now.

"D-Deku...." He took in another stuttering breath, a sob in his voice as he began to ramble. "I-I'm sorry, f-for everything-- for being a shit friend for so, so fucking long. Y-you needed me and I fucked you up--" All the times he should've taken Izuku's hand instead of slapping it or walking away instead came through his mind, though the other's hurt, betrayed features haunted him with each painful memory. "I did and said horrible things to you, pushed you down w-when I should have been pushing you forward--" An ugly sob left him as hot, stinging tears began to fall down the sides of his face. "I-I should have been there for you, should've been helping you grow, not.... not beating you down every time.... Y-you deserve a better friend-- you have better friends.... But you a-always follow me, like back then. I-I'm not good for you-- wh-why do you still chase me, call my name like you did before I was such a horrible person?" He asked, though he didn't expect an answer.

He choked on another sob as exhaustion began to settle in, his ears swimming, blurring what was going on around him audibly. He didn't know what was going on anymore, except that this was probably it. It's now, or never, even if it was selfish of him. "D--Izuku.... I-I'm selfish, horrible for th-this, I know.... b-but for the longest time, I didn't know what I was feeling towards you until I had friends th-that called me out for my shit, made me realize things that sh-should've been obvious.... and then when the jealousy came whenever anyone showed interest in your oblivious ass, I fucking knew.... I knew that I loved you, even if it was too late." His voice grew weaker, his breaths finally slowing, but it wasn't because he was calming down. "It's fucked up-- if you love someone, y-youre not supposed to hurt them.... You're not supposed to make them feel worthless or weak every chance you get.... and yet here I am, the fucking i-idiot that realized too damn late." He let out a sad, weak laugh, before he sobbed once more. "Please.... even i-if you don't forgive me, just.... please, I-I don't want to die alone. Y-you don't have to say shit, d-dont have to tell me pretty lies so I feel better.... I-I just want to finally take your hand...." He hiccuped, before he quieted, his breathing weak as his head began to fall to Izuku's side.

The injuries to his limbs, particularly his arm, was worrying, but impalement was significantly worse. Even if crushed limbs ruined the blond's career, he'd at least survive that for sure, but two rebars through the torso... His ears snapped up again as the rubble shifted, the gauntlet on the left making a sound that made it clear that it had collapsed under the weight. This complicated things as that meant that there was likely a puddle of very volatile sweat now pooling on the tile, if it hadn't been already. They couldn't stay here. The longer they did, the more dangerous it would become, made obvious by the fact that the rubble wasn't stable.

He could hear the voices in his ear piece so he knew that help was already on it's way, though they were trying to figure out how to get to them. Normally, this was the part where he played the part of an emotional support bunny and focused on comforting the victim or victims as they waited to be dugout. It was usually the safest route when you didn't know how many people were buried. The last thing you wanted to do was upset the rubble in such a way that you crush one of the victims.

The area had been evacuated as they fought. The building should have been empty of people and he hadn't heard anyone else when he'd arrived and still didn't so it was very likely that Bakugou was the only one here. His frantic thoughts were interrupted as the blond continued to speak, his world feeling like it was slowing to a halt as he went on. He would have never expected Katsuki to say these things to him and the more he spoke, the more unbelievable what he was saying became. Tears welled up in his eyes as feelings he'd long since given up on were reciprocated. Ka-chan loved him back... His heart ached at the thought of how much time they'd likely wasted out of some combination of fear or pride.

More importantly, the fact that Katsuki was choosing to confess now sent a very clear message. He was sure he was going to die. "Ka-chan, stay with me! Stay awake!" He ordered, even as the blond started to slump. He quickly scrambled a little lower, wiggling his way up to drape himself across the other teen's neck. He once again activated not just his own quirk, but the one he had been lucky enough to inherit. He planted all four paws once they could all reach the blood-slicked tile, making sure he was well-grounded to minimize slipping. He continued to grow, green electricity flickering over his form as he started to support more and more of the rubble above them, slowly starting to lift it up with his back. Green-black tendrils lashed out to start manipulating the blond out from the rubble that had pinned his limbs reluctantly pulling him free of the rebars, cradling him close under the safety of his now large body.

He used his quirk to activate his earpiece before speaking. "Bakugou's in critical condition, I'm getting us out, get clear!" He ordered, waiting for them to confirm they had. It took seconds, but even those seconds felt like forever. When he got his cue, he sprang straight up, forcing his large body to burst out from the rubble, using it to protect Bakugou as they ascended. As soon as his paws hit the ground, he was lowering the blond onto his back and shifting down into his natural size, scrambling to reach into one of the pouches at his waist. Soon enough he was pulling the other's mouth open, using his quirk once again to manipulate things as well as hold a flashlight for him so he could see into the other's mouth. A little careful fiddling later and he was forcing the small candy down his friend's throat and working it down, willing it to take effect quickly. These candies were more suited to healing up minor damage rather than the extensive wounds Bakugou had, but Midoriya carried them specifically to keep himself from bleeding out. The wounds may not close completely, but the blood would clot for him. Hopefully, it would be enough to keep him going long enough to survive a mad dash to the hospital.

Izuku had done well, not only getting Katsuki out of that hazardous situation, but also freeing him without damaging such areas further. However, Katsuki was still very much under as the greenette worked those candies into his mouth and throat with such care. In moments, his wounds looked far more manageable, less severe, but he was still in a critical state. Rescue heroes helped him onto an ambulance not too long after, carting him away to urgent care, where he'd be in surgery for what felt like forever.

But, finally, the blonde was in stable condition, resting in a hospital bed, casts on his broken limbs, and extensive bandaging over his more serious surface level wounds, as well as his now sewn-shut impalement wounds. Luckily, his vital organ had come out mostly unscathed, especially his reproductive organs. Unfortunately, due to the extent of his injuries, even after all the hard work from medical professionals, the young man would have to suspend his suppressant doses, to allow for proper recovery. Katsuki won't know this until he'll wake up the day after, however. For now, he was resting as best he could in his situation, unaware of a dear friend's worry.

When the blond woke to the sun's rays hitting his eyes, he let out a low, pained groan as he looked around sluggishly, trying to process where he was. He could only move his head so much, with how weak he felt, but he was at least able to see the window, ceiling, and the door leading to the hall, as well as various tunes and lines he assumed were connected to his body in one way or another. However, his heartbeat began to slowly raise to a higher pace as he remembered Izuku, remembered how they had both been trapped essentially. "I-Izuku....?" He rasped out, mouth dry with fear, worried about where the fuzzy sweetheart was.

Worried that that idiot saved Katsuki, but not himself.

He had all but willed Katsuki to swallow as he shoved the soft candies in, thankful that the blond reflexively did so. He honestly wasn't sure what he would do if that has failed... There was so much blood already, Bakugou couldn't risk losing any more. He'd already lost enough that 'too little too late' still came to mind. The wait for his transport to hospital had been torture and the fact he was forced to remain behind for the purpose of completing police reports was even worse. As soon as he was free to leave, he did so at starling speed, the hospital staff panicking for a moment considering how much blood had been caked on him.

They had thankful been sympathetic revealing that Bakugou was still in surgery and allowing him to purchase some clothes from the gift shop and shower while he waited, his soiled clothes placed in a zip bag for him. They weren't surprised that he'd insisted on waiting for Katsuki to come out of surgery which extended to a new insistence when the blond had come out of surgery. They had honestly bent the rules for him way more than they should have and he couldn't be more grateful.

This latest bending of the rules was why there was a pile of clothes on the chair next to the bed. Upon the call of the freckled teen's name, only a short moment was needed to wait before the was movement and a vocalization. "Mnn... K... Ka-chan...?" At his side, a small ball of green fluff sat himself up, blinking sleepy emeralds at him. Realization caught up with the bunny all at once and then he was far more alert. "Ka-chan! You're awake! How are you feeling?! Do you want me to call the nurse?!" Poor thing... His concern was obvious and it was hard not to get worked up even though Katsuki was now stable.

When the blonde heard Izuku, he melted, relief washing over him as his heart rate fell back into a calmer pace, and he looked into worried green emeralds with a faint, exhausted smile. "Of course I'm awake, fussy-bunny.... I'm sore, for one...." He admitted, before lifting his casted arm weakly, before setting it back down gingerly. "My mouth is dry, though.... Could you hit the call button for me?" He asked quietly, seemingly ashamed to have ti ask fir help for such a simple task, but could you blame him? Izuku was a pleasant, warm and soft weight on his arm, and he didn't want to move at the moment either. He felt heavy and weightless at the same time, and almost empty too. "S-say.... Did the doctors or nurses ever say how bad my wounds were?" There was an edge if anxiety in his tone, his normally strong and comforting cinnamon, whiskey and firewood scent coming out weak and sour, betraying exactly how scared he really was.

"N-nothing had to be.... r-removed, right?" He asked, barely above a whisper, remembering how a length of rebar was so, so painfully and frighteningly close to something irreplaceable, rarely fixable to still function as intended. Sure, Katsuki may hate snot-nosed brats and all that, but.... he didn't want to be robbed of the ability to change his stance on that, even if adoption was on the table. When he was able to finally smell his anxiety-bittered scent, he gagged faintly, closing his eyes tightly. Shit-- why was his nose so sensitive?? Was being under for.... he didn't know how long, in a sterile environment make his nose more sensitive? "'Zuku, c-can you.... Can you put out your scent at all? Or at least move closer? I-I can't stand my scent right now...." He muttered bitterly, wondering if he smelled bad to the rabbit-boy as well.
