Bonnie and Clyde, and the bear's there too. - FNAF: Security Breach Bonnie/OC(Clyde)/Freddy

Bonnie didn’t remember when it happened, but he knew for a fact he hadn’t always been like he is now. He remembered not feeling anything, just giving pre-programmed responses to everything his systems knew to react to. If there was something new or strange that he had yet to be programmed to do, his systems would inform him of ways to politely get out of the situation. Like if a child asked him something philosophical when a… machine, like himself, could never comprehend the complexities of existence or the human mind.
”Bonnie, what happens when we die?” ”I don’t know, my little rockstar, that’s something you should ask your parents.”
Bonnie remembered not feeling anything at all when kids fell and scraped their knees, he only remembered his programmed response to go to the child and help them up to take to get first aid. He remembered the simplicity of never feeling any form of sympathy for children when adults grabbed their arms to twist them into obeying them. He remembered never feeling angry, being completely incapable of feeling anything at all.
And then, he couldn’t even pinpoint how or when; Bonnie just remembered feeling far too much.
The next time he’d seen a mother grab her daughter by the elbow and squeeze, Bonnie felt rage wash down his titanium spine. When he’d seen some children bullying another, he’d stepped in, even though his programming said nothing about doing so. It wasn’t his purpose. Yet he always tried his best, stepping between children and their various tormentors. Disobeying staff, disregarding protocols, ignoring his limited charge time just to spend a few seconds more with a child- Bonnie had known he was becoming an issue, so he wasn’t surprised when a new animatronic popped up with similar talents to his own programmed into him. He wasn’t surprised when that animatronic pushed him off a balcony either. It had been a programmed response to an opportunity. He’s sure that if it had been before his awakening, Bonnie would have done the same if it was asked of him. He could hardly blame Montgomery for what he’d done any more than he’d blame a toaster left on the highest setting for burning sliced bread.
When the technicians and engineers left him in a hidden room attached to parts and services- his limbs detached, pieces of his chassis off for easier access, and a thick cable being the only thing keeping him awake after his battery was removed -he wasn’t surprised either. The only real shock was that, while they’d cut him off from the internal network, they didn’t cut off his communications entirely. He could, at the very least, browse the internet. For better or worse. He found he quite liked astronomy, for something that had only ever seen stars painted along the walls of the Pizzaplex. He also liked cat videos and history. There wasn’t much to do when all he could do was think and download information. By the time he was uncovered again, it had been years, and reports of his unruly behavior had fallen through the cracks.
Bonnie was updated; given a new look, an almost entirely new endoskeleton, and even more advanced programming and mechanics. His battery could last hours, and his access to things was higher than ever before. The humans, of course, didn’t expect him to use that access. They never noticed the extra charges under Fazbear’s name. Packages delivered with extra parts for more improvements for the animatronics. The engineers never realized the orders that came to make them solar chargeable did not come from any manager, but from an animatronic itself. Loosening their leash, letting them greet visitors just outside the door, making it the norm to let them roam all night and day instead of locking them in their rooms. Bonnie had done all that and they would never know, because they didn’t think an animatronic would know enough to be selfish like that, to have a goal that wasn’t just to serve.
He’d even gone so far as to make it possible for the animatronics to repair themselves in parts and services- no help from staff required.
It was gradual, but he looked at his home and felt. Excited at his new freedom, concerned that they’d notice sooner or later, too happy to care. He still met kids every day, performed, and went to his room when asked. But he also snuck off to the roof, just to stare at the stars, and hid the drawings the children would give him in his room’s drawers. He wouldn’t delete their files like he was meant to once they left. He saved them, each a precious memory, hidden behind walls of coding all his own so the staff would never notice.
Bonnie had been staring at the moon for what felt like hours but had only been thirty minutes at most. The moon looked golden, round, and huge. It made Bonnie feel serene; which was good, because his sensors went wild when he heard movement coming toward him, shooting to his feet to stare at the newcomer warily. He was breaking the rules, which would be investigated if anyone knew. He clenched his hands into fists, hearing the shift of the metal in a quiet whine. “I wasn’t…” Wasn’t what? Breaking the rules? Because he most definitely was. “Technically, the roof is still part of the building.” He couldn’t see who it was, it was too dark and his eyes had yet to be upgraded. So he resisted the urge to grind metal teeth and waited for a response to his poor excuses.
Every now and then themed attractions such as the ones hosted by the Fazbear corporation needed to bring in something fresh and new to keep the customers coming. Sometimes it manifests in the form of a new theme, sometimes it's new characters or attractions, and sometimes it's a mix of all of the above. Sometimes though... Sometimes changes are made after everything has been cemented down. Sometimes it's born of necessity. When the new Mega Pizzaplex was green lit, some changes were agreed upon to the cast to start with. Foxy wasn't as popular as the others and the whole pirate shtick just wasn't going to mix well with the glam rock theme chosen for this location. This lead to the creation of Roxanne Wolf! A second female band member to split the ratio half and half was for the better anyway, helps keep the feminists off their backs. She was given a very butch I-need-no-man confident sort of personality just to be extra sure.
For a time, that was the only major change outside of aesthetics and music composition. Though the choice to sub in Roxy in the place of Foxy had been rushed a bit, the next change was thrown together at a breakneck speed. Something was going on with Bonnie. The iconic rabbit was acting out and when a heavyweight animatronic does that, it can be dangerous for human personnel. There were murmurs of replacing him as well, but he was such an iconic member of the band, the hippie talking 'bad boy' that the kids thought was cool! Well... As 'bad boy' as they could allow him to be while still keeping things kid-friendly. No, they couldn't just get rid of Bonnie, there would be an uproar, particularly as his slowly increasing failures to follow orders were taken positively by the guests. No... They would have to keep him and think of another way to get him to step back in line.
And so Clyde Chameleon was drafted. A fresh face would do them good and there had been some talk of having a wandering animatronic on the floor independent from the band anyway. It was a good opportunity to fill in a bunch of little niches that would help make things run more smoothly. He was loaded down with rules and regulations, extensive scheduling information including access to the network's special events database so that he knew if it was a guest's birthday so he could escort them to the correct party rooms and double-check all the arrangements are correct, hours of operation, a detailed floorplan of the entire facility, safety and etiquette protocols, the entire history of lore the franchise had to offer and what was and wasn't canon to the story relating to their location specifically... The list went on. That wasn't even touching on his practical uses, designed to be much smaller than all the rest so he could fit into cramped spaces, hands and feet that he was equally dexterous with and a prehensile tail to make him an excellent climber so he could fetch unruly brats that wouldn't come out of the play structures or fetch a lost balloon. He even had a dexterous and extremely long tongue which could split in four at the end to allow him to recover objects with ease that couldn't otherwise be reached. If all that wasn't enough, he was programmed to be clever, friendly, and personable, to best soothe angry mothers and fussy children alike as well as charismatically free up the cast for scheduled events. He was one of the most versatile animatronics they'd ever completed!
And as such he'd taken too long.
In the end, he was too time consuming to wait for, but to valuable to trash. They'd planned on giving him a direct tie in with Bonnie to explain why they were around each other so much, but the idea was scrapped when it was decided that Bonnie just wasn't worth the trouble. As his half of the coding was already in place, they simply added a lazy explanation for the guests for him to parrot about how Bonnie had struck out solo and left the band, but everyone was still good friends. A second animatronic was constructed alongside him, this one with a similar rockstar attitude they'd be losing with Bonnie, his green coloration applied to the gator with his own color scheme taking on an easy to see yellow as several people had been complaining that they missed the warmth the color had brought to the band through Chica. The two debuted together the day after Bonnie's last performance with the band.
Though at the start he was questioned about where Bonnie had gone and he'd frequently have to explain that he was Bonnie's best friend and had come to the Pizzaplex per the rabbit's request so that he could pursue a solo career. As time passed, he was asked less and less about it, though it did happen from time to time as there was still a bit of evidence lingering in the pizzaplex, such as the Bonnie Bowl. Even years later though, they still asked for him. His following was nothing if not dedicated and though people asked less about what happened, more people started to ask when he would return. As the pressure mounted, it was clear they would have problems if they didn't bring him back soon. What's more, there was a bit of a lull in business anyway so having a big event with Bonnie returning from his solo tour because he missed his friends so much, rocking an updated look would really draw in the crowds.
The project was secret at first, but information was eventually leaked through Clyde himself, commenting on how he'd been talking to Bonnie recently and that his friend had confided in him that he missed them all and was thinking about coming back. These rumors hit the internet, of course, till it all boiled over that he was indeed to return, the exact date, and the week-long celebration that would follow in honor of it. It had been utter chaos, of course, but they'd made quite a bit of money and people really ate up watching the charming chameleon hug his long-gone friend upon his formal return.
All the while, Clyde himself felt not a thing. Sure he faked his emotions with the best of them, but he never felt any of the warmth he radiated. At least... At least until Bonnie's return. It was the strangest thing... For years, a part of his code, beautifully weaved into his being, an intricate part of his very personality, had gone completely unused. It lay dormant, gathering metaphorical dust only to sing to life for the first time when Bonnie made his grand entrance. His friend had returned! His only friend... He spoke with him with more eagerness than anyone else he'd ever spoken to, engaged in scripted conversations with him in front of the guests without being prompted to, and actively drifted back to him whenever he found himself idle. He was supposed to do all those things, but... It seemed he was a little sensitive to those facets of his code, enough so that guests and staff alike knew that if they needed to find one of them, it was likely the other was there too.
Thankfully he was also taking the other part of his code seriously. Curbing the rabbit's old habits. At first, things went as they'd expected, the yellow faux reptile urging his friend to get back to whatever task he was supposed to be focusing on, but in time... In time it changed. Slowly enough that few noticed till the change was well established. Rather than just redirecting the bunny, he would offer to take over for him personally. Worse, from time to time, he would take a calculated risk and rather than urging his friend to stop doing what he was doing, he would actually go and stall for his 'partner in crime'. The whole 'Bonnie and Clyde' themeing for them had of course been kept light as the real figures were criminals, but the playful puns and references were there. There were even some unintentional theories floating about on the internet because of Clyde occasionally referring to them as 'partners'. While a public statement assured the public that he meant it playfully and that none of the band members, their roadie included, were romantic with anyone. Still, if it made the alphabet mafia happy, they weren't going to really push against it.
Over time, things improved for the establishment and the quality just kept right on climbing! This extended to the treatment of the animatronics themselves. They seemed to perform better with more consistency with the changes to their routines so no one felt the need to argue for things to change back. However... The extra freedom did have one complication. The cast did have a tendency to wander on their own more. This made them harder to find which certainly made them harder to keep on schedule. While Freddy could track those with a Fazwatch, he couldn't do that with the band members too. It was considered to expand his access, but in the end it was decided that this upgrade would be given to Clyde instead as he was in charge of keeping everything running smoothly anyway. Sure enough, he became much more efficient and the guests were delighted about being able to get real-time updates on the locations of all their favorite crew.
It was this very upgrade that Clyde was using now. He'd already checked up on everyone to see how they were doing and if they needed anything, all but one of their number. He patted the head of the wolf plush he'd given to Roxy to snuggle, told her one last time how amazing and beautiful she was, then bid her goodnight. He made his way to the stairwell and started to climb, not the steps, but the railing. It was much quicker for him to simply climb right up the middle rather than taking everything step by step. The elevator wouldn't grant him access to where he needed to go so the stairs were his only choice. Upon reaching the top, he crawled up over the rail and down onto all fours right by the door, reaching up one tridactyle hand to crack it open.
From the outside, Bonnie would be able to see the door creak open, a single perfectly round flashlight shining out at him. The door creaked a little further open only for a second light to come into view then the cautious yellow swirled to blue and dilated as a familiar yellow visage appeared out of the gloom of the stairwell. "So this is where you are... You know we're not supposed to be out here, but don't worry. I'm not gonna rat you out, buddy." He rose to his rather unimpressive 5' in height as he ventured completely outside, approaching his friend. "Why are you out here though? The only thing up here are the AC units. Did you hear something?" His large, eyes took in their surroundings all his lights flickering back to a nervous yellow. While he lacked many of the facial features the other animatronics sported, he made up for it with color-changing lights and large, expressive eyes. He even went so far as to step up close to the bunny, almost close enough to touch.
Clyde's addition to the Pizzaplex and Bonnie's life was new and welcome but made him wary. As much as he cared for his friends, they weren't like him. They still blindly followed their programming and any orders given to them, even if it meant hurting themselves or each other. Monty had been built for the express purpose of decommissioning him by force since they knew he would never go along with the technicians if it was clear what they were going to do, and Clyde had been built to be his leash. Small, compact, agile. He could find Bonnie anywhere, wrangle him back to his duties and distract him from anything the chameleon animatronic deemed unnecessary. But, he was also new. He had new responses and was programmed to be his friend first and foremost. Sure, it was a ploy to keep Bonnie under control all those years ago, but it was still something he clung to desperately.
Freddy and he had been inseparable once. Still were, to a certain degree, but sometimes seeing his old friend follow his programming unquestioningly made him feel wrong for feeling. Bonnie was the broken one, he was the one going against the things they were made for, their entire purpose. Bonnie was the wrong one and seeing Freddy be so right just hurt.
Clyde was easier to talk to and be with because, while he lacked the same pre-programmed friendship as the reptilian bot, he was quick to soak in it. In someone new, a new feeling. And it left him feeling as new as his outer chassis as well. He could be himself to a certain degree around Clyde, without the animatronic struggling to keep up with his differing responses when they didn't match up to anything that was in his previous logs. Because they were friends, even if not really, and it was relieving to escape from the others with him.
But sometimes, when Bonnie's thoughts became too much and his desperation for more was too strong, he wanted time on his own completely too. The roof was his previous reprieve, but it was clear that the latest upgrade to Clyde wouldn't give him that same peace. "Hi, Clyde." Bonnie released a very glitchy-sounding sigh, voice box not made to interpret the sound he was imitating. Sitting back down to resume staring up at the sky, Bonnie motioned for the smaller animatronic to sit with him. "No, I didn't hear anything." One articulated ear flopped to the side, curiosity getting the better of him, "Sit. I was looking at the stars, and the moon. I was thinking about how far away they are, and how tiny the planet must be compared to them." Finally, Bonnie tore his eyes off the curve of the moon to stare back at Clyde. "Don't you ever think about how small the Pizzaplex really is, and how big the outside must be? And to think, there's even more out there."
He was practically willing the other to see things like he did, desperate for some familiarity, until he remembered just how lonely it felt to be like him, and immeditely cursed himself for being so selfish as to wish it upon someone ese. "Maybe I'm just being silly. You know, just a dumb rocker rabbit." That's what the staff said when they thought he was out of ear shot, nowadays, none of them having worked there long enough to remember his deviation from code and the near-uselessness of his personality chip's influence.
”Bonnie, what happens when we die?” ”I don’t know, my little rockstar, that’s something you should ask your parents.”
