Katsuki never thought the day would come when he would be cast out by his maker, over something so trivial. He never thought that having the desire to be greater than he was would be a sin, condemnable by damnation, being thrust into the Pit for all eternity, seemingly with no chance of redemption. Why was it so wrong to improve, become stronger, faster, more powerful?
Fuck them all, maybe Lucifer was right, after all. No one even came to defend him, at least try to lessen the punishment on his behalf-- they were all too afraid to stand up to their creator, and it truly twisted the knife in his heart. He thought he had brothers and sisters that would be there for him, through thick and thin-- he'd done everything he could for them when things went south, didn't he?
They can all rot, for all he cared. They can sit on their high pedestals, thinking themselves perfect and infallible, not needing improvement in any aspect of their being. They'll be sorry for abandoning him, allowing him to call from grace the way he did. And, surprisingly, Hell wasn't as bad as everyone had toted it to be-- sure, the sinners themselves were an unholy chorus constantly crying out in agony, and it was a bit stifling in a few layers, but it was none too different from earth. There were cities, small territories and different groups of demons in each layer of Hell. Some demons were born, others created by their own hand, direct or otherwise, or some even were created by someone else, or to protect them from further harm, similar to a variant of the tale of Medusa.
Of course, that variant in particular was the one that held a decent amount of truth. The other pantheons have their own messy politics he had no desire to mess with one bit. He had to admit, though, that he sympathized with a good few characters across the board, in some cases.
Regardless, it didn't take Katsuki long to rise through the ranks-- ascended, if you will-- and sure enough, he became the Avatar of Ambition, on par with the other Seven Deadly Sins. It wasn't so easy, but it was worth the struggle, worth the training and eventual transformation of his very being. Feathery wings became a soft, pliant, dark burgundy leather, his halo split and became magnificently curled ram horns, and a fine addition of a long, slender but strong prehensile spaded tail was a plus for sure. Of course, a proper demon never let his tail out constantly-- it was a weak point, and terribly sensitive, he'd come to learn quickly.
By the time he'd fully turned, Rome had fallen from their poorly planned and executed expansion, and he watched the smoke billow high, the fire lighting the sky and cities from his perch on a nearby cliff, expression bored. Alas, he'd been too late to intervene-- but, he was new to his task as an Avatar, and it won't be long until he'd get his chance to toy with the mortals, and throw them into their own spiral downward with time. The scent of burning stone and ash was easily carried to him on the wind, his sandy blonde hair lazily swaying with the breeze as he observed the destruction. Humans were such simple creatures-- it made his blood boil, knowing his creator favored them over his first creations, despite their willful rebellion. But, Katsuki knew he'd help bring his creator down a peg, in one way or another before too much longer.
