Ochaco slowly let herself relax into Katsuki's hold, her trembling slowing down to a gentle shaking every once in a while. Her sobs relaxed and faded away, tears just silently rolling down her cheeks. The rocking absolutely helped just like it always had. There was still a part of her that felt guilty for snuggling up to her ex-fiancé, but she needed the comfort right now. A fact she knew that Kirishima knew. She tilted her head slightly to look in Eijirou's direction as he spoke up.
She caught onto his offer of an out, letting out a shaky breath and nodding. “Y-Yeah... I’m sorry I’m reacting so bad, I just...” She shook her head, hiding her face in Katsuki’s chest. Neither man was stupid, she knew that. Katsuki likely already knew that that wasn’t what was happening here. “I’ve been having a really rough time lately and... I guess it all came pouring out. Just— Just give me a little bit... I’ll be okay.”
She didn’t want to be the center of attention here, especially after Katsuki just had his own breakdown. She snuggled a bit more into the blond, just trying to relax and calm herself down. She let her eyes fall shut, just taking in his comforting presence. Focusing on her breathing and doing her best to center herself in the moment. She calmed herself down after a short while, pulling back a bit from Katsuki and wiping at her eyes. “I’m okay now. Sorry about that...”
.....
The blond continued to hold and rock her, pointedly keeping his breathing even like she had for him back at the coffee shop when he was having his own fit. An unintentional side effect of her own anxiety attack was that his hero instincts knee-jerked into place and how he'd very much forgotten his own distress in favor of tending to hers. Slowly but surely, she settled down and grew quieter, but he made no move to let her go. Katsuki fully intended on holding her till she felt well enough to withdraw on her own. A part of him felt guilty for enjoying having her pressed against him, but he ignored that part of himself for the most part in favor of soothing her anxiety which was much more important at the moment.
Kirishima let out a breath he hadn't noticed he was holding when she took the offered lie to escape whatever it was that had upset her. It sounded like they would be talking about a whole lot once they got back to the apartment. Or maybe not. It wasn't really their place to try and get something like whatever this was out of her, but he couldn't help but be worried. They had all missed her after she'd moved away and Kirishima himself had been no exception, even if her leaving had directly affected his getting together with Katsuki, something he still felt guilty for.
"Hey, it's alright! We all have our downswings and it's okay to have those. What's important now is that you're back and we're here for you. We'll get lots of chances to make lots of memories together and take lots of pictures too! Hey... We should throw you a 'welcome back' party to kick things off! How does that sound? I'm sure everyone would be super hyped for that." The faux redhead went on, trying to offer what comfort he could from where he was. It was a little difficult as he couldn't exactly hug her whiled driving, not to mention clear across the fairly large van.
Meanwhile, Katsuki continued right on comforting her best he could with touch. He'd always been hard-pressed to comfort with words. It's not that he couldn't, he'd very much learned how to and was fairly good at it, but he was still uncomfortable doing it. A part of his mind still told him that doing something held more weight than saying something. This wasn't always true, but he couldn't help feeling this way. All the same, that left him holding her for as long as she needed it, even rubbing her back gently to help her come down.
In time, she'd come down enough to lean back a bit, though she didn't leave his embrace just yet. Fuck... He'd missed her so much... "Don't be sorry. You were there plenty of times for me before and you've already proven that you still are. I promised the same and I feel like I failed you in that respect. I'm going to make up for it now." He rumbled softly to her and before he realized it, he was leaning in to press a gentle kiss to her forehead. He instantly realized how intimate that was and how he really shouldn't have done that, but it was too late, he'd done it. He could feel his heart pounding as he leaned back to reestablish the space between them, trying to act like what he'd done wasn't out of place. The pink blooming on his cheeks was not helping...
.....
Ochaco smiled softly, nodding as she looked up at Kirishima. She was so, so grateful to see that he wasn’t mad at her at all. Or, if he was, he didn’t let it show. He was doing his best to cheer her up and make her look forward to the future. “I’d love to do that. It’d be great to see everyone together again. Just let me help set it all up. I’d feel bad making you two do that all on your own.” Setting up and planning a party all by yourself was stressful and she was sure the two of them had plenty of that in their lives being pro heroes. And they had a baby on the way. If there was any way that she could help keep stress down in their lives then she’d happily do so, especially when it explicitly involved her.
She straightened up as Katsuki told her she didn’t need to be sorry, her heart squeezing in her chest. Her cheeks flushed a deep red color as he kissed her forehead just after. Did he just...? Did he really just kiss her forehead? Was- Was it just a friendly thing? Was it something more? No way- there was no way it was something more. He was married to Eijirou. It had to be a friendly thing!!
She shook her head- and also shook her confused thoughts away- before hugging him tightly again and shutting her eyes. She hid her face in his shoulder, mostly covering up her blush. “I never said it enough in the end, but you were there for me. You were. But you were hurting and struggling too. I wasn’t fair to you. We weren’t fair to each other. I’m just glad that you and Kiri are doing really well and that you’re willing to be friends again.” She let out a soft sigh, just enjoying his hold around her. It still felt so safe. He felt like home…
She’d missed that, to be honest. The feeling of leaning into someone and just fitting against them. She had that with Kiyoshi, of course, but it felt like forever since that night. This feeling… She didn’t realize that she had been missing it until now and it almost made her cry again. She was quick to swallow down those feelings, though, not wanting to create a scene and draw even more attention to herself.
Instead, she just pulled back, tilting her head to the side and giving Katsuki a warm smile. “But… let's move on from the heavy stuff. You and I have a brownie to finish off before it isn’t warm anymore.” She picked up the brownie box, offering it to Katsuki.
